The Wisconsin Lottery has become aware of a scam that targets Lottery winners with promises of more winnings. The call may even appear to come from the Lottery office, Powerball or Mega Millions.
To protect yourself, please remember:
- Never give your personal information out over the phone, especially your Social Security number.
- You will never have to purchase anything other than the winning ticket to claim a Wisconsin Lottery prize.
- The Wisconsin Lottery typically does not call people to tell them that they've won, except in contests that the person has intentionally entered.
- The Wisconsin Lottery does not notify winners through internet "pop-ups".
If you receive a call from someone claiming to be from the Wisconsin Lottery, Powerball, Mega Millions or any other institution, be on your guard. You can always call the Wisconsin Lottery at (608) 261-4916 for more information, or to check the legitimacy of such claims.
